We started this week with our Readers about different important people who have made their marks in the world in one way or other. (The Beatles, Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs)
Pre Teens and Teens will be on them.
Beside developing their reading ability further by enlarging their vocabulary and structures, we aim at exposing our students to inspiring models. This year the idea is to invite our students to discover them through different ways and places...
And also, taking advantage of Obama's visit to our country, students worked with Michelle Obama's speech to girls about the importance of their role in the world.
Of course we dealt with Malala (Nobel Peace prize for this young girl)

Comenzamos esta semana con los Readers de diferentes personalidades quienes han dejado su marca en el mundo. (The Beatles, Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs)
Los grupos a cargo de esto son Pre teens y Teens. Es nuestra idea que además de desarrollar su capacidad lectora exponiéndose a diferentes estructuras y vocabulario, nuestros alumnos puedan seguir descubriendo modelos confiando en que puedan inspirarlos. Este año la propuesta es hacerlo invitándolos a descubrirlos desde diferentes lugares y maneras.
Además también aprovechando la visita de Obama a nuestro país, los alumnos trabajaron con el discurso que Michelle Obama dio a las mujeres sobre la importancia de nuestro rol en el mundo. Y por supuesto también trabajamos con Malala (Nobel de La Paz con tan solo 16 años)

Let's go fishing!
It rained so much this week that Kinder 4 decided to go fishing!
On their fishing day, kinder 4 sang (in a low voice of course to fish from swimming away), they also played with colors (as fish
at Open Up are colorful like the ones in the Great Barrier Reef!),
counted the fish they caught (all cognitive abilities) beside developing their motor skills too of course!

Llovió tanto esta semana que Kinder 4 aprovechó el agua para irse a pescar!
En su día de pesca, Kinder 4 canto (en voz baja para no espantar a los fish) aprovecharon y jugaron con los colores (porque los fish de Open Up son de colores como en la Gran Barrera de Corales!) contaron los fish que sacaron (habilidades cognitivas) además de desarrollar aún más sus habilidades motrices!
This week Ms Marina attended a conference in the USA about Creativity. Her heart beat at fast speed in every presentation but mainly in those lectured by Sir Ken Robinson, a leader in Creative Education. For those who don't know him yet, please watch his TED talk (the most watched one of all TED talks)
Here something to share:
• creativity is the process of generating not only novel but also useful ideas.
• it's hard to be creative when you know little.
•let's help our sts to develop an attitude of being open to challenges as opportunities for something new.
• our lives are organic. We make them up.
• you can be creative in any area, not only in arts.
• Creativity is not only for special people. We all have a creative abilility.
• Being more creative is imperative.
• Our education today is killing creativity with so many exams and marks.
• We are the system so we cannot change the system if we ourselves don't change.
• And million of other concepts which we are already working on to start implementing at Open Up English Teaching.

Esta semana Ms Marina asistió a un congreso sobre Creatividad en Estados Unidos. Su corazón latió sin cesar en todas las charlas pero sobre todo en las dictadas por Sir Ken Robinson, eminencia en educación creativa. Para quienes aún no lo conocen, los invitamos a que se tomen unos minutos para escuchar su charla TED (la más vista de todas las charlas TED)
Aquí algo para compartir:
• La creatividad es el proceso de tener ideas no sólo originales sino también útiles.
• Es difícil ser creativo si poco se sabe.
• ayudemos a nuestros alumnos a desarrollar una actitud abierta frente a desafíos, ya que son estas nuevas oportunidades para algo nuevo.
• Nuestras vidas son orgánicas. Nosotros las hacemos.
• Se puede ser creativo en cualquier área, no sólo en el arte.
• la creatividad no es solo para gente especial. Todos tenemos capacidad creativa.
• el ser más creativo es obligatorio.
• la educación de hoy está matando esa creatividad con tantos exámenes y notas.
• nosotros somos el sistema o sea no podemos cambiar el sistema si no cambiamos nosotros.
Y millones de otros conceptos que ya estamos trabajando para ponerlos en práctica at Open Up English Teaching!
diferente y puede entonces aportar algo distinto al equipo.
